Direct access from the campsite
Sarrans Lake, in the Truyère Gorges, is a 35 km, 1000 ha artificial lake with a dam. It lies within a beautiful, protected, natural setting with steep banks that are almost entirely covered in trees.
There is a lovely picturesque spot, on the tip of the Laussac peninsula (500 m from the campsite entrance) where the banks are less steep, making them ideal for swimming, fishing and launching boats. The distance from the entrance and the level of the water can vary from year to year, depending on hydroelectric requirements.
Guests can reach the lake from the campsite via Reception. We do not recommend that you walk down directly from the pitches as the banks are extremely steep.
Swimming and water sports
You can enjoy a wide range of activities in and around the lake including: swimming, games with inflatables, canoeing, walking or even fishing.
Swimming and water-based fun
In high season, lifeguards are in attendance on the peninsula to supervise swimming. There is no supervision outside of high season but swimming conditions are very safe and the water is clean and pleasantly warm. Use of inflatable boats, canoes and motor boats is permitted for maximum fun on this vast expanse of water. However, due to the sheltered location, windsurfing can be difficult.

A variety of water sports
You can launch and moor your motor boat free of charge, using your own mooring buoy. However, for ease of access we recommend that you rent a space on the mooring platform, at the entrance to the campsite (€8/ day – booking recommended).
You can jet ski and water ski, free of charge, using your own equipment. Unfortunately, this equipment is not available to hire on site.
Guests not in possession of a boat can still enjoy a trip on the lake: motor boats, canoes, pedalos and paddleboards are available to hire from reception.
Ideal for fishing
Lake Sarrans which is located between Viadène and Carladez, and surrounded by magnificent, unspoilt scenery, is a 2nd category lake teeming with mainly carnivorous fish (perch, pike and zander).
You will need a boat if you want to fish the depths of the lake with its woody debris and cliff drops. However, fishing from the bank can also be very rewarding.
Permits are required for recreational fishing with several options available to purchase:
– weekly permit
– young person’s permit (12 – 18 years)
– introductory permit (under 12 years)
