The Most Beautiful Aveyron Castles to Explore with the Family : Messilhac
A Journey into the Heart of the Medieval History of Cantal
The Château de Messilhac, located in the Cantal department, in the Auvergne region, is a stronghold full of history and mystery. Built in the Middle Ages, it testifies to the feudal past of the region. Perched on a rocky promontory, it dominates a landscape of valleys and mountains in the Auvergne region, in the heart of a preserved natural park. Its imposing structure, although modified over the centuries, retains elements characteristic of medieval architecture, including its ramparts, round path, fortified tower, sandstone facades and charming half-timbered details. The site, now open to visitors, invites art and history enthusiasts to discover a treasure of exceptional architectural heritage, while immersing themselves in the atmosphere of ancient fortified cities, small medieval towns and villages of France with a rich past.
