The Great Lakes of the Truyère

Over the course of the 20th century, the Truyère was tamed by several hydroelectric dams. Designed to generate electricity, these structures transformed the valley into a series of lakes with diverse landscapes. Today, they offer numerous opportunities for relaxation, exploration, and outdoor activities.

Sarrans – The giant of the valley, this body of water stretches 35 km long and reaches nearly 100 m in depth. The eighth largest artificial lake in France, it offers countless ways to enjoy nature: boating, swimming, fishing, or leisurely walks along the shore. The creation of the dam also shaped an iconic site: the Laussac Peninsula.

🌿 Saint-Gervais – Smaller (16 ha) but charming, it is appreciated for its accessibility and friendly atmosphere. A 3 km path allows an easy loop, perfect for a one-hour stroll.

🌊 La Selves – Covering 167 hectares, this lake is a true recreational base for swimming and water sports.

Montézic – A 250-hectare technical reservoir, it plays a key role in water transfer and energy production.

🎣 Couesques – Spanning 65 hectares, this narrow lake is particularly popular with anglers.
